To ‘Confused’.  There was a guy I knew in college whom I and all the other guys were envious of.  He could, and did, charm the pants off of every girl he met.  He also wasn’t particularly selective.  He’d bed just about anybody female.

Once the group of us were out partying together and it was clear that he was hitting it off with one girl.  They left together.  The next day I asked him how things would up.  “Nah,” he said, “Nothing happened.”  When expressed surprize (since the signals were so obvious when they left) he said that by the time she finally decided that she wanted it he had lost interest.

I think the idea of dutch is revolting, in all settings, with any cossible combination of differ companions.  I was soured on this by a guy who counted who had how many cokes, and used a calculator to figure out taxand tip based on this soda count.

But I did always make a gesture, like picking up a round or snacks at a movie.  Five dates is a bit awkward to sit there and twrl your hair while the guy fishes his wallet out.

Agreed, that’s the way I see it too. It’s fine to leave the option open as to who pays for what, but it seems the correct thing to do to at least always offer to pay, and never, ever expect for the woman to pay. It’s disrespectful, and potentially very annoying indeed. More than anything, it makes you look cheap, which is not the best first impression you could make.

 I’ve always split the bill during the first few dates. But then I dated mostly in university and that’s what most of the girls did. When I met my current bf, I paid for our first date (he offered to pay, I told him I could pay for myself, he countered with ‘well, maybe you should pay for me too’). I would be very uncomfortable letting the guy pay for everything. Maybe things are different in Canada?
